About Us

Built by the Scientists Who Pioneered Culturomics

Proven expertise turning microbial discovery into real-world products.

Wurus Biosciences was founded by pioneers of the culturomics method scientists who have shaped modern microbial discovery from the ground up. Our team has designed and built culturomics laboratories from scratch across three countries, developing and operating large-scale discovery platforms that serve both academic research and the biotechnology industry. Across these platforms, we have isolated more than 10,000 living microbial strains, discovered 50+ previously unknown bacterial taxa, and translated live microbial discoveries into patented technologies and commercial products. From first concept to products on the shelf, our founders bring unmatched, end-to-end experience in microbial discovery and development.

Our Values

What Drives Us

We have the firm belief that all live microbes can be cultured and the true power of the microbiome will be reached when we grow all microbes in every microbiome.

Scientific Excellence

Rigorous methodology and reproducible results drive everything we do.

Collaborative Partnership

We work alongside our clients as true partners in discovery.

Continuous Innovation

Constantly pushing the boundaries of what's possible in microbial science.

Quality Commitment

Maintaining the highest standards in every analysis and deliverable.

Founder & CEO

Dr. Niokhor Dione is the Founder of Wurus Biosciences and a pioneer in microbial culturomics and microbiome research. During his PhD at Aix-Marseille University, he was part of the team that developed microbial culturomics, a transformative approach for cultivating and characterizing complex microbiomes. Dr. Dione has scaled culturomics across human, animal, and environmental systems, designing and building multiple discovery platforms from the ground up across three countries Across his career, his work has led to 10,000+ microbial isolates, 50+ novel bacterial taxa, and patented technologies derived from live microbes.

Prior to founding Wurus, Dr. Dione was a postdoctoral fellow at Laval University where he studied the interactions between the gut microbiome and the endocannabinoid system in cardiometabolic health. Then, he attended Stanford University, where he worked in the Fischbach Lab on high-throughput cultivation strategies and defined complex microbial consortia. After that he joined Animal Biome where he designed and built the Microbial Discovery Lab. His team isolated thousands of living microbial strains and translated some in commercial microbiome products.
